Untitled (Friday)

Happy Friday!  I hope your week was splendid and that your weekend will be even better.  My plan for the next two days is to do a lot of relaxing and a bit of home and garden work to get things prepped for our upcoming Autumnal Equinox ado.  If you're interested, here's a bit of what I fancy this week.

My brother writes about the Lions here and here.

When I'm Feeling Sad

Although sometimes I miss having an actual summer vacation, I like the feeling that summer isn't over with the arrival of Labor Day.  This year, we have three more weeks before summer comes to a close and we enter my favorite season.  I'm already noticing the decreasing length of day and honestly, am enjoying it.  If your interested, here are a few other things I fancy.

The thought of being four years in.

A greyhound turned Roscoe, the Rescue Dog for cocktail hour.

This late-summer sweater in both cuts and all three colors.

Assuming you get one, have a fantastic three-day weekend!

When the Bee Stings

It has been a rough week.  Despite that, here are a few of the ups that have stood out among the downs.

Maybe an Everlane Snap Backpack is in my future.

When the Dog Bites

It may have seemed as if I disappeared for the past two weeks, but I was ramping up for and then recovering from a fun-filled eight days with my family.  Just now, I'm kind of wishing that I had taken more pictures (both still and moving) to help absorb it all.  It would be nice to have a few images of the mundane.  My dad and brothers, all three with their ipads, reclining on the couches, my sisters-in-law returning from a candy run to the little store with the subsequent distribution of loot, and my mom taking the rare moment to relax in the rocker with my niece.

Returning to the swing of things has been somewhat overwhelming. Thankfully there have been gems along the way.

Typewriters for better or worse.

Including a Victory Garden how-to.

P.S. My dog can be a first-rate asshole.

Silver White Winters That Melt Into Springs

This week kind of zipped by.  Unfortunately it has been marked by several variations of I'm hungry, I'm hot, and I'm tired.  Despite general malaise, I did...

...get a little inspired and learn a few tips from the Dog Whisperer.

...spend about five seconds interested in making kafir.

...watch a video about a mural in motion.

Snowflakes That Stay on My Nose and Eyelashes

It's not uncommon to receive pre-made dinners and offers of housecleaning when one brings home a new baby.  Now I know that new owners of young dogs could benefit from this same kind of generosity.  Nearly two weeks post dog adoption, things are beginning to come back into focus (...somewhat).  There have been a few points of interests this week.

Clicker training for the pup.

I heard Piper Kerman on The Moth podcast and am planning to check out Orange Is the New Black.

Girls in White Dresses with Blue Satin Sashes

Last Friday, I skipped a beat.  With the arrival of my mom, grandma, and aunts from Michigan, I didn't have much time for a Favorite Things Friday post.  If I had shared a few of my favorite things, they would have been...

My brother's shiny new website for Matt Simon Designs.

Food photos that make me want to get back to scanning.

Wild Geese That Fly with the Moon on Their Wings

This is the last weekend before the celebratory event.  Ideally, I'll get the house and yard/garden whipped into shape so that I can spend the last few days adding finishing touches.  We'll see how that goes.  Usually what happens is that I work, work, work down to the wire and then I proclaim that "good enough is perfect."  If you're looking for a delightful distraction, these are a few that I've come across this week.

The geometry of frequency vibrations.

Katie Shelly's graphic recipes for those of us who prefer reading pictures.

Skateboard waste turned fancy-pants iPhone case.

Schnitzel with Noodles

Only two weeks until our summer solstice shindig.  For that matter, only thirteen days until the much anticipated arrival of four out-of-state guests.  In addition to all the recent productivity around here, I have managed to find a few interweb gems.

As usual, Geninne's delightful desktop.

Interactive charts... because what have I always said is the most important thing?

Penelope and Pancho pug fabric designs.

Sassy vegan cooking with a mission I can get behind.

Sleigh Bells

It's been a treat to spend this week in MI.  I enjoyed seeing a lot of familiar places, but the best part was meeting my niece and spending time with family and friends.  During the down-time, when I wasn't getting some Vitamin D, or watching Arrested Development, or napping, or eating delicious home-cooked meals, or playing dominoes, I managed to find a few favorite things.

This take on toddler talk.

The biggest flag around.

Have a great weekend!

Doorbells

Looking ahead... I will be taking a [mostly] unexpected trip to Michigan this next week.  Looking back... I've successfully kept myself amused this past week.  These are a few of my favorite diversions.

The wind has been on my mind.

Bicycles are the best.

A new spin on the classic g & t that involves clapping.

As I'll be on a vacation of sorts, see you Tuesday.  I hope that your three-day weekend is stupendous.

Crisp Apple Streudels

I woke up this morning thinking that it was Saturday.  It was a bit of a bummer to realize that it wasn't and that I have somewhere to be today.  On the bright side, everything feels so peaceful and quiet (like a Saturday), that I was up before six just to bask in the silence (like a Saturday).

As for the real thing, I'm looking forward to both the buying and the selling aspects of the city-wide garage sale tomorrow.  It's nice to make money and get rid of some junk all at the same time.  It's also fun to find a treasure in someone else's castaways.  A win-win.  In the meantime, these are a few of my favorite things from this past week.

My brother takes a day off of work.

Rain Room interactive exhibit.

Daydreams of beekeeping.

The Office farewell.

Cream Colored Ponies

We have been enjoying unseasonably warm and dry weather here.  I'm looking forward to another weekend of gardening with a brief break to check out a local car show and maybe another break to nap in the hammock.  This past week, when not planting seeds or watering, I diverted myself on the interweb and by sitting in front of the boob tube.  These are a few of my favorites.

Warm Woolen Mittens

Boy-oh-boy am I glad that it's Friday.  These longer days and all the springtime work that goes with them are wearing me out.  Although I'm pretty terrible at sleeping in, I'm going to give it a try this weekend.  These are a few of my favorite things from this past week that have perked me up along the way.

Childhood obsessions.

14 april 2013 . sunday . (day one thousand one hundred ninety-six)

It's Friday!  I'm getting better at enjoying weekdays instead of simply putting up with them in order to get to the weekend, but Fridays are still pretty rad.  These are a few of my favorite things from around the interweb that made me smile this past week.

Any and all maps.  These non-traditional groupings caught my attention.

Hiking to the end of the earth (sort of).  When will I do this?
