Dawn

27 january 2014 . monday . (day one thousand four hundred eighty-four)

Yesterday, I started a new job.  J. is calling it the beginning of a new era.  I'm not exactly sure if that's an accurate assessment or not, but what I can say is that it has been quite a while (nearly nine years) since I last started a new full-time job.*  At that time, I was the Project Administrator for a general contractor, and now I'm working as an Administrative Assistant and Conference Room Coordinator for a charitable foundation.  ...exciting changes.

*In my last position, as a Teller at a credit union, I was working full-time, but it started out as a part-time gig.

Common Ground

In the past, Food Not Lawns has certainly caught my attention on the shelves at Territorial Seed.  Aside from being more of a check-books-out-from-the-library-over-and-over kind of girl, I was a little intimidated by the lady on the cover so I never bought it.  As it turns out, someone was going to donate their copy to a local Friends of the Library Book Sale, but thought of me and gave it to me yesterday as a gift.

J. and I are currently in the process of converting our yard from lawn to food-plot/edible-landscape/whatever-you-want-to-call-it so obviously I'm really looking forward to learning ways to build community and bring people together with our venture.

P.S.  Be sure to wish someone a happy National High Five Day today.  ...probably you should exchange as many high fives as possible.

Revolution

10 february 2013 . sunday . (day one thousand one hundred thirty-three)

There has been yet another changing of the guard.   Our O'Keefe and Merritt has been pushed out by a Chambers, and I'm officially in love with the new addition to our household.

Before you even consider the broiler/griddle or the thermowell, the fact that we have three fully-functional burners is enough to make me giddy.  If it's possible to be turned on by an appliance... I am.

There are many changes that need to happen in our kitchen, but I am happy to say that the stove isn't one of them.  The Chambers fits right in and is here to stay.

Light My Fire

Not too long ago, J. got our cute O'Keefe and Merritt up and running.  After using a toaster oven to bake and only two burners to cook for over a year, the addition of a proper oven and two additional burners was life changing.

30 december 2012. sunday . (day one thousand ninety-one)

Unfortunately, the burners always required a match to ignite and produced itty-bitty flames at most.  The previous stove was the same way with the teeny-tiny fire and match ignition.

21 january 2013 . monday . (day one thousand one hundred thirteen)

A full size oven was a luxury that we had given up for far to long and were quite glad to have back.  The oven was christened that first night with chocolate cupcakes.*

*They were cute but a bit spongy.  Because the oven was pure perfection, I'm pretty sure it was something I did or the the fault of the recipe.  Either way, I will try a different chocolate cake next time.

"The cupboard was bare..."

The marble topped dresser that J. had been eyeing for quite some time is finally ours.  It's not in stellar condition but there are at least three reasons that I really, really like it.

One:  It fits perfectly (with breathing room on each side) against the wall next to the door.

Two:  It's convenient to have a mirror near the door.  Plus, a mirror in that particular location seems to connect the living spaces.

06 october 2012 . saturday . (day one thousand six)

Three:  The drawers are perfect for storing hats, gloves, & scarves.

Arrangements

08 september 2012 . saturday . (day nine hundred seventy-eight)

Because our home now includes a piano,* I took the opportunity (i.e. was required) to make a few changes to the general layout of our living room.  I must say that I am rather pleased with the new arrangement.

*Yea!  I don't play, but I still find this quite exciting.
