Top Shelf [Laundry]

I've been making our laundry soap for about three years now.  I'm sure there are a lot of different recipes out there, but I make Jenah's HomeMade Laundry Soap.  It's easy and extremely inexpensive.  Additionally, it doesn't bother my sensitive skin, it's gentle enough for delicate garments, and... if you happen to forget the a load of clothes in the washer overnight, they don't smell mildewy by morning.

Home for Feet

There's something about braided rugs that really appeals to me.  I like the variation of color and I'm a big fan of lines and circles (ovals too, I guess).  Maybe it's because they feel homey.  Well anyway, I saw a Pin on how to make your own.  The DIY tutorial got me to thinking that maybe I can make one.  Any bets on if and/or when it happens?

So Dang Cute, or, Very Own Chickens

For just over four months, I've been tending chickens.  Because the coop I planned to build would house three medium-sized layers, I started with five chicks in case any turned out to be boys.  The three ladies that stayed were going to have names like Elvira, Dottie, and something else old-timey, but they ended up being collectively called Larry, Moe, and Curly.*  The other two chickies, Mutt and Jeff, found a home at the in-laws.

*If I do eat them after they stop being productive layers (like I keep saying that I will because "In a way, it's this beautiful cycle to nourish something and then be nourished by it, yadda, yadda."), I'm thinking that it will not be quite so difficult if the chickens don't have cute little names.
