It was our first camping experience with Marrow. He did extremely well considering that the preceding weeks were
a bit hellish. It may look as if he was an afterthought, but he wasn't. ...mostly.
The unfortunate thing about camping with a puppy is that he gets up at the same time each and every day. He does this even if you've been sipping beers, playing frisbee by moonlight on the dunes, and sitting around a campfire far into the night. Because I too have trouble sleeping in (aka am a morning person), I get the privilege of 6am walks.
It's not so bad when you get foggy early-morning views of the campground lake.
By far, the best thing about camping with a dog is that he can carry an extra backpack on hikes. This is mighty useful when you need extra space for snacks and beverages or when you don't want to carry your sandals after you take them off to run in the sand.
* I think of camping with other couples/families a little like weekend-long dates. Sometimes you want a second or third date, which, in this case, becomes an annual adventure.
